Ontario Cap & Trade Website

What you need to know about cap and trade in Ontario, including how it works and who is required to participate.

Ontario’s cap and trade program is designed to help fight climate change, and reward businesses that reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

If your business is covered by Ontario’s cap and trade program, you can learn about the program’s requirements and processes, as well as how to participate here.

Registration

Registration for the cap and trade program begins in early August 2016.

All participants in the program must first register to use the Compliance Instrument Tracking System Service (CITSS), a web-based program used by North American jurisdictions that have cap and trade programs in place.

CITSS tracks emissions allowances and offset credits from time of issue by governments, to ownership, transfers, through to final retirement.
