Energy Conservation Week
May 25th - 31st, 2008; Ontario-wide

Energy Conservation Week is a province-wide initiative that is being co-ordinated by the Ontario Power Authority, in co-operation with many partners, including the Ministry of Energy, the Independent Electricity System Operator and the Electricity Distributors Association. It combines awareness-building, the dissemination of practical information about energy conservation, and encourages the implementation of specific measures that will help Ontario better manage its summer peak and build towards a “culture of conservation.” For more information, visit the Energy Conservation Week website, www.energyconservationweek.ca a dynamic resource that features tips on how to conserve energy, an energy conservation forum, an events calendar and more.


7th Annual Ontario Power Summit
May 28th - 29th, 2008; Toronto, Ontario

A number of key issues will be facing the Ontario electricity sector this year: the Integrated Power System Plan under consideration by the Ontario Energy Board, the expansion of Ontario’s transmission system, consolidation in the LDC sectors, the future of competition in the electricity market and the appropriate role of green energy in meeting Ontario’s power demands to name a few. Windfall Ecology Centre Green Ideas Conference 2008
June 7th, 2008; Newmarket, Ontario

This event will take place as part of the Windfall Ecology Centre's Windfall Ecology Festival, which runs June 7th-8th. Authors, keynote speakers and environmental leaders focus on a variety of green issues and health topics for individuals, businesses and municipalities. OSEA will be giving a Solar Energy 101 Workshop in keeping with our Solar Power Workshop series. OSEA will also deliver a presentation on Starting a Community Power Project: a discussion of the many opportunities that exist for communities interested in locally developed wind and solar renewable energy projects. Small-scale Commercial Wind Workshop
June 7th, 2008; Tiverton, Ontario

To be held in association with the Tiverton Energy Expo, this event will take place at Lions Hall in Tiverton. This workshop will cover 1kW to 100kW wind systems. Various topics will be covered including: determining what small wind systems are compatible for agriculture operations; offsetting on-farm power requirements, net metering and the standard offer program; project challenges including zoning, building permits, grid connection impact assesments; wind measurements and project analysis using RETScreen; turbine purchase and tower installation; financing and much more. OSEA Kingston Community Power Workshops
June 23th - 26th, 2008; Kingston, Ontario

In keeping with the Community Power theme of World Wind Energy Conference 2008, OSEA has introduced a specially priced Community Power Workshop Series. The wide range of workshops offered are designed to educate individual landowners, First Nations, non-profits, farmers, cooperatives, eNGO's, and municipalities about community ownership and partnership models, financing renewable energy projects, policies supporting community-based project development, technical and management challenges, and capacity-building.

Situated within one of the fastest growing renewable energy markets in Canada, the 2008 WWEC agenda will represent all renewable energy technologies for electricity generation and has been structured to address challenges, opportunities and best practices within international renewable and community power sectors. Community Power Training Session for World Wind Energy Institute
August/September, 2008; Kingston, Ontario

To be held at St. Lawrence College, in Kingston Ontario, this training workshop will be delivered to the students of the World Wind Energy Institute. Content will include advanced details related to developing a medium to large-scale community power project.

Kids World of Energy Festival Public Day
May 10th, 2008; Toronto, Ontario

This year the Toronto Renewable Energy Co-operative (TREC) is launching an exciting new event for children, teachers and families from all over the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. The Kids’ World of Energy Festival is a three day event with already over 3, 000 kids registered from the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board! The festival concludes on May 10th with a Family Wind Energy Day in collaboration with CANWEA (Canadian Wind Energy Alliance) and the Clean Air Partnership. This event will bring together a wide range of activities, presentations and workshops for the whole family. OSEA will be giving a presentation.

The 19th Annual APPrO Canadian Power Conference and Networking Centre
November 13th and 14th, 2007; Toronto, Ontario

Presented by the Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPrO), this conference is the leading event in the Canadian power industry.  Incorporating significant renewable energy aspects, APPrO members include the big names in the renewable energy business like TransAlta, EPCOR, Brookfield Power and AIM PowerGen. It’s a fantastic opportunity for new developers to get up to speed with the opportunities in the renewable energy business.

APPrO is a non-profit organization that like OSEA, wants to see the new renewable energy projects under the Standard Offer Program succeed and multiply. The TORC Energy Forum 2007

The Ontario Rural Council (TORC), will be hosting a forum for South-Western Ontarians interested in local ownership of renewable energy. This forum is focused on farmers and agricultural communities. Community Wind Projects and Equitable Tariffs Forum
October 30th, 2007; Montréal, Québec

This Forum will explore the complexities of policy and community wind power projects through speakers and discussions. Three experts will address the various alternatives available to Québec for community wind energy policy, followed by a debate and discussion. CanWEA’s 23rd Annual Conference and Tradeshow

OSEA delivered two presentations in two separate sessions of the First Nations EDO Conference in Kenora Ontario, outlining the benefits to sustainable economic development through the development of renewable energy projects sited locally.


North American Conference on Environmental Cooperation

OSEA was present at the annual CEC, held in Mexico this year. There, OSEA promoted the 2008 World Wind Energy Conference and our ARTs campaign in Ontario.


Power to Choose: A Citizens Forum on Ontario's Energy Future

OSEA delivered a presentation at Power to Choose regarding opportunities with Community Power, and the intent of the Standard Offer Program, as well as recommendations.

Ontario Solar Roundtable
May 31, 2007; Toronto, Ontario

OSEA held the 2nd Ontario Solar Roundtable, to discuss ongoing issues regarding solar in Ontario, and the Standard Offer Program for solar electricity. In attendance were representative from nearly all of the solar community organizations across Ontario, as well as the City of Toronto, the Toronto Atmospheric Fund, and CanSIA.
