Community Energy Update - January 2012, Issue 1
Ontario Sustainable Energy Association

There is much to be done - we need your help

Dear OSEA supporters,

Firstly we want to wish you a very happy new year. I hope you all had a great holiday and are rested and recharged.

Much has been accomplished in the past year at OSEA, thanks to the generous support of our members and friends. Just take a look at our 2011: Year in Review video to get a sense of what can be done when our members, supporters, communities and conscientious Ontarian's like yourself work towards a common goal of community-owned, sustainable energy in the province.

There is much more to be done however, and we simply cannot continue without the support of our membership.

Funds that we raise from members and friends allow us to provide important services including:

  • Assistance to communities of farmers, unions, First Nations, faith-based groups, and co-ops to plan and build local generators of green energy
  • Informative monthly webinars on an array of topical issues
  • Fun and interesting regular networking events to meet like-minded people and make professional contacts
  • Advocacy campaigns on policy and regulatory issues that support community and commercial sustainable energy and conservation in Ontario
  • Research into key areas such as skills training, energy storage, community ownership and partnership models
  • A regular newsletter to keep our network up-to-date on the latest policies, happenings and developments in the sector.

There are a number of easy ways you can join OSEA today and be a part of the solution. Your membership or contribution directly supports the continuous work of OSEA. We are all in this together, and it is our growing community of supporters who will continue to move Ontario towards an energy system that is 100 per cent sustainable.

OSEA FIT Webinar Series: The straight facts on Hydro One connection issues

Problems with Hydro One connecting your project?

Do you think that Hydro One has:

  • Inflated your connection cost estimates?
  • Failed to properly identifying your connection work?
  • Misled you regarding whether the work must be done by them, rather than your own contractors?
  • Taken advantage of you by implying your CIA will be lost if you do not agree to pay non-negotiable connection costs within 6 months?

Join Gowlings lawyer Ian Mondrow, who has successfully challenged Hydro One practices at the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), and won an important ‘test case' related to the above questions. Get the straight facts to move your project forward.

During the second half of the webinar participants will have the opportunity to share their own cases, ask questions, and contribute to OSEA's strategy for next steps including briefing the Minister of Energy and other collective actions.

When: Thursday, January 12, 2012 POSTPONED. New date will be published shortly.
Cost:
