Downtown West Solar Energy Project

details: The Downtown West Solar Energy Project is a group of volunteers who have, over the last year, organized a bulk purchase of solar energy systems for downtown homes. The electricity generated by solar electric systems will be sold to the Province for 42 cents per kilowatt-hour under the new Standard Offer Program. The hot water from solar water heating systems will be used in each household.
projects:The DWSEP has completed our series of public meetings and is presently signing up homeowners who want solar energy on their rooftops. Homeowners have signed up for over 70 solar systems so far (photovoltaic, hot water, or both), and we anticipate even more before the June 15 participation deadline.

Early this spring, a Request for Proposals was sent to a number of solar vendors. The committee selected Goldwater Solar Services to provide the solar hot water systems and Solera Sustainable Energy Technologies to provide the photovoltaic systems to generate electricity.

Our series of public meetings in May were very successful. Over 220 people came out to learn about solar energy systems, community power initiatives, system siting, and the proposed solar hot water and solar electric systems.
