LIFE is its namesake: a local initiative for future energy with a vision to "foster community investment
in sustainable resources to reduce our environmental footprint". LIFE is an energy co-operative owned by
members who are local residents and businesses primarily in the Region of Waterloo.
LIFE partners with Community Renewable Energy Waterloo to deliver public education programs,
and is otherwise focused on promoting community owned renewable energy assets. LIFE's first project will be a
co-operatively owned wind farm, and later community energy projects will branch out to include other renewable energy
technologies.

LIFE is in the planning and site testing stages of a proposed wind farm with up to 10MW of installed capacity, which will generate
enough clean, renewable power for up to 4000 homes.
LIFE has identified local areas where they are planning to erect an 80m test tower in 2007 to begin the collection of wind data.
In 2006 LIFE collected data at 30 and 40 meters at selected locations. These preliminary numbers have helped firm the belief
that a successful wind farm can be operated in their area.
